Chelsea’s fifth Premier League win in a row came at the end of a week that saw owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned and the club placed under restrictions. Kai Havertz’s brilliant late goal sealed a 1-0 win over Newcastle.
After Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Newcastle, Thomas Tuchel underlined his devotion to the club, even offering to drive his players to Lille for Wednesday’s Champions League match.
Chelsea beat Newcastle with a lats-gasp goal from Kai Havertz in the 89th minute, capping off a rollercoaster week for the club that saw owner Roman Abramovich sanctioned by the UK government on Thursday and then booted off a director by the Premier League on Saturday.
Despite all of the off-field worries and distractions, Chelsea have now won five consecutive Premier League game to consolidate their third-place position.
During his post-match press conference, Tuchel was asked about his future, and after stating that he intends to stay with the club, he emphasized how a day-by-day approach allows his coaching staff and players to concentrate on their performances.
“There’s no doubt in my mind that I’ll stay until the end of the season,” he stated Absolutely.
“We have to wait day-by-day because everything can change, but the situation is clear: the club is for sale and hopefully it will go through to sort things out and give us some perspective. It’s pure speculation, and I have no further information than what you already have.”
