A former Financier of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Central Region, Dr. James Kofi Annan has revealed that one of the reasons for leaving the party was the unprecedented levels of corruption he witnessed.
Dr. James Kofi Annan who recently defected from the NPP was a card-bearing member and a financier in the Effutu constituency but said throughout his life, he had thought that the person who could save Ghana from its poverty situation was Nana Addo but has been left disappointed in view of what has happened.
In an exclusive interview with MyNewsGh.com at Winneba, the defected parliamentary candidate said he used to think that corruption was industry but now see it to be a religion and even part of life especially when it comes to Winneba and therefore feels very disappointed.
Dr. Annan referred to the recent issues surrounding the University of Education Winneba (UEW) which brought the name of the University into disrepute as typical examples of a litany acts fueled by shady deals.
“I was hopeful the Nana Addo government would do something about it but only to be unconcerned. Winneba township is suffering under this government as a result, the beauty of the Aboakyir festival is now dying. The youth in the area are so unemployed and as a result, poverty telling on the faces of people is unbearable”, he said.
He promised to use his position as a former United Nations Global Financial Sector Commissioner to network and links up investors to change the fortunes of the Effutu constituency.
